The Village Grocer Has Moved!

It’s official. After much anticipation, The Village Grocer has moved to 4476 16th Avenue (just slightly west of Kennedy Road, on the north side).

The new location is larger than the much loved Carlton Road store, but still boasts the same character that keeps customers coming back again and again.

The expanded store allows the various departments to display items beside one another, rather than in layers, and extra stock is on display too, rather than being stored in the back fridge. There is an extensive cheese display, more bakery counters—and even more samples—a fresh produce section with an expanded organically grown area, and a meat section that not only has more counter space to allow for some imaginative preparations, but also has a fresh sausage making table where you can watch your sausages and burgers being prepared. The much expanded flower section will be last in line rather than first, avoiding the risk of your groceries crushing your beautiful arrangements.

New to the store will be a café, featuring freshly roasted coffee from Velvet Sunrise of Stouffville. There you will be able to get amazing sandwiches and salads, and during the day, hot foods and soup. Visit this wonderful new location soon! The Village Grocer has maintained the ambience and coziness of the old store, while offering so much more.

New Hope for Osteoporosis

A debilitating disease, osteoporosis will often go unnoticed until a bone breaks. Affecting nearly two million Canadians, osteoporosis often remains undertreated and challenges exist with current treatment options.

“Osteoporosis can be prevented, however, if you already have it there are treatments that can help protect bones from breaking,” said Dr. Aliya Khan, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Divisions Endocrinology and Geriatrics, McMaster University. “A brand new treatment called Prolia may be an effective option. Prolia decreases the formation of bone removing cells, preventing bone loss and increasing bone mass, offering Canadian women a new choice for preventing fracture.”

Regular physical activity, combined with a proper diet and appropriate intake of calcium and vitamin D are often enough to prevent osteoporosis. If you already have osteoporosis, speak to your doctor about lifestyle changes and treatment options that are right for you. Visit www.healthandbone.ca for more information about bone health.
