The Hon. James K. Bartleman shares his compelling story of living with depression and his ongoing commitment to raising mental health awareness.

Markham Stouffville Hospital was very proud to welcome the Hon. James K. Bartleman for a special speaking engagement on May 9, 2006. With the official mandate of reducing the stigma associated with mental illness and as the recipient of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Courage to Come Back Award in 2004, His Honour opened the Hospital’s 7th annual “Ideas for Mental Wellness” day by sharing his compelling story of overcoming childhood adversity and the violent attack that led him into deep depression.

The event, presented by the Hospital’s B.R.I.D.G.E. (Building, Restoring, Initiating, Developing, Growing and Empowering) day treatment program, was open to invited guests, including health care partners, hospital staff, patients and their families.
